Lisa's Story 

Each month, the Health and Education Resource Center website highlights a title from the print collection.  This month's featured title is Lisa's Story.  Although this is one of several breast cancer books in the library's collection, its format is unique.  It tells the fictional story of one woman's experience of having breast cancer in comic strip format.  Lisa's Story collects the strips from the newspaper comic Funky Winkerbean that tell the story of the character Lisa's cancer experience.  Even though the account is fictional, several of the anonymous quotes sprinkled throughout the book come from cancer survivors who found the story to be realistic and true to life.  The back of the book lists several resources from NABCO, the National Alliance of Breast Cancer Organizations.  Those living with cancer and their families and friends may find that the unique format of this book makes it easier to think about and express one's feelings about the cancer experience.
